KEYNOTE DISCUSSION & BOOK SIGNING

Extraordinary Creatures:

Wendy Goodman & Hutton Wilkinson

Wendy Goodman and Hutton Wilkinson join us to discuss, of course, Wendy’s

glorious new book, May I Come In? Discovering the World in Other People’s Houses, and the wondrous phenomenon of encountering new ways of living upon entering strangers’ living rooms.  Goodman—a longtime editor of New York magazine, authors of The World of Gloria Vanderbilt, and co-author (with Wilkinson) of Tony Duquette—has made a celebrated career out of chronicling the residences of aristocrats and eccentrics.  And Wilkinson, obviously, is the living legend who’s kept the magic of Elsie de Wolfe and Tony Duquette alive in this century. Together, these two friends, these comrades-in-arms, will discuss their battles against banality, their war with humdrum and the second-rate.

Julia Reed with Courtney Coleman,

Bill Brockschmidt, & James F Carter

Julia Reed is our Dorothy Parker and our Oscar Levant and our Martha Gellhorn and our M.F.K. Fisher.  She’s a national treasure, whose company is a thrill akin to riding the tilt-a-whirl at the state fair.  To have lunch with her is to add a winning page to one’s autobiography.  And Southern Style Now is honored that she's joining us this year to discuss the making of her "Mississippi Delta Folly." She's joined by her accomplished architect James F. Carter as well as Courtney Coleman and Bill Brockschmidt, the divine decorators with whom she collaborated, for a conversation about the making of a dream house from conception to blessed completion.
