Southern Style redefined...
We've asked your favorite Southern Designers how they define Southern Style now...
Q: What does Southern Style Now mean to you?
Kevin Walsh: Southern Style Now is more of a feeling than one particular look. Interiors that are craft-fully collected over time mixing modern element with heirlooms passed down from generations. Spaces designed for entertaining and spending time with friends and family.
"...mixing modern element with heirlooms passed down from generations..."
Q: How do you reinterpret Southern traditions in your work?
Kevin Walsh: I am constantly on the hunt for unusual vintage or antique pieces to add instant character to my Interiors. I find that the layers you add to room give the room it’s personality.
"...antique pieces to add instant character to my Interiors."
Q: Can you see a thread of Southern influence woven into your interiors? If so, how does it display itself?
Kevin Walsh: I adore classical design and rooms that are well edited. You will always find at least one antique in every room mixed with high and low collected elements.
"...one antique in every room mixed with high and low collected elements."
Q: Finally, do you have a favorite Southern Style Now (Festival or Showhouse) anecdote that you can share with us?
Kevin Walsh: I’ve been very fortunate to attend both Southern Style Now festivals and left both inspired not only by the amazing design talent and gorgeous rooms, but by the kindness of the people and the unbelievable beauty of the South.
